Pumpkins and Old Lace

« Une bonne tête de papi-mamie », c'est ce que cherche le photographe de la compagnie Discra pour promouvoir des couches contre les fuites urinaires. Appareil photo à la main, il visite une maison de retraite. Qu'on lui montre les « gentils petits vieux » et qu'on en finisse avec cette histoire! Mais l'histoire, ou plutôt les histoires... ne font que commencer. Car si les retraités que le jeune homme découvre sont certainement très âgés, ils semblent en avoir long à raconter. Avec Citrouille et vieilles dentelles, film d'animation de marionnettes, Juliette Loubières signe un conte moral drôle et sincère qui nous rappelle que la vieillesse est parfois un masque qui cache les trésors de l'âme.

Two strangers, a man and a woman, sit beside each other on an airplane. After takeoff, the plane goes through some turbulence - and, influenced by the unknown, the man's spirit plunges into a different world. Here, his desires take control, and the result is a grand romantic saga. In this animated film, director Georges Schwizgebel masterfully sweeps us into another world through music and movement, breaking down the boundaries between desire and reality. Set to the music of the second movement of Rachmaninoff's Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 19, the film transorts us into the traveller's labyrinthine thoughts. Animated with pencil, pastels and acrylics, and underpinned by the musical dialogue between piano and cello, Romance is a dazzling visual transcription of this Rachmaninoff scherzo.

The selfishness of the bourgeoisie and the dull passivity of its servants are the theme of this puppet animation presenting the tragicomedy of a society in its death throes, taking refuge in absurd behaviour. A film without words.
