To Oedipus, women are an enigma. Why, with her bothersome husband finally out of the way, did his mistress inexplicably run off? Don't lose your head, thinks Oedipus. Just try to understand. And so the valiant young milkman embarks on an introspective journey, a process of self-discovery and regression in which he retraces the path of his life. Parodying the Greek myth, and throwing in a bunch of well-known NFB animated characters for good measure, director Paul Driessen offers up a backwards tragicomic version of the classic tale. Oedipus is Driessen at his absurdist best.

Land of the Heads

A vampire is forced go out every night to separate children from their heads. The reason? His vain wife wants to replace her wrinkled head with one that is young and pretty. What a horror! Especially since the lady of the house is never satisfied and the heads keep piling up on the floor. How will our reluctant vampire ever get out of this vicious cycle? In a new take on the horror film classics, directors Cédric Louis and Claude Barras create a tale at once macabre and funny. It is reminiscent of the bizarre worlds and expressionist landscapes so characteristic of Tim Burton. A feast for the eyes and a treat for the mind!

The Three Wishes

Based on the traditional folk tale of The Three Wishes, this animated short by Sheldon Cohen is about a poor couple who try to decide which of their dreams should come true after being granted special powers. The story is adapted by Toronto children's author Aubrey Davis and is set to a lively Klezmer soundtrack by the musical group Beyond the Pale.
